Google Gears
Worlds are colliding* ! Are we going to talk about desktop… 2.0 ?!?
I installed Google Gears a few days ago, just for the sake of curiosity, and didn’t notice anything new since today when, browsing my news feeds in Google reader, I noticed a little green stranger after my name.
Devoured by curiosity I clicked on it, and it just happened…

… my web service went off-line!
It seems pretty weird for a 100% web company like Google to go offline. I can see some advantage when there’s no internet connection available: user can continue his tasks and sync later. OK, cool.
Google obviously wants to put all its Google Apps offline so they can completely replace traditional office suites. It is probably good marketing and they may succeed… nonetheless, I can’t completely remove the feeling that it’s a bit as if GM provided horses to its customers in case their cars goes off-gas.
Furtermore, I can’t help being reluctant to have Google casting shadows over my offline realm, after my online one has been assimilated.
